Nimule National Park, National park in Eastern Equatoria, South Sudan

Nimule National Park is a protected area in South Sudan featuring savanna woodland, rolling hills, and dense forest sections along the White Nile River. The terrain sits at approximately 640 meters elevation and encompasses varied landscapes.

The park was established in 1954 as one of South Sudan's first formal conservation efforts following independence. This early protected area marked a commitment to safeguarding the country's natural resources.

Local communities have lived alongside this protected area for generations, developing deep knowledge of its plants and wildlife. Their traditional practices remain woven into how the park functions today.

Visiting requires official permits arranged in advance, with transportation and local guides essential for access. Plan your trip during the dry season when roads become more passable.

The White Nile forms the eastern boundary for approximately 48 kilometers, creating distinct habitats where elephants, buffaloes, and many bird species thrive. This river landscape supports major wildlife movements throughout the region.
