Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literature Museum Library, Literature museum and library in Altındağ, Turkey.
The Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literature Museum Library is a restored two-story house in the Hamamönü neighborhood that reflects traditional Ankara residential design. The collection holds around seven thousand books and one hundred periodicals featuring works by regional authors alongside materials about Turkish independence.
The museum opened in 2011, marking ninety years since the adoption of Turkey's national anthem, which was written by Mehmet Akif Ersoy. It was the first of seven planned literary museums across the country intended to combine literary preservation with education.
The building displays how Ankara residents lived in the past, showcasing daily life through furnishings and household items from that era. It serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors alike engage with Turkish literature and authors from the region.
The museum is open on weekdays, welcoming visitors from ten in the morning to seven in the evening, with exhibits of acclaimed literary works and author-signed books on display. The ground floor contains most of the exhibits, making it easy to explore even if you have limited time.
This location was the pilot project of a planned series of seven literary museums across the country, intended to set new standards for literary institutions. This initial establishment served as a model and blueprint for subsequent openings in other cities.
