Karacabey Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Hacettepe district, Ankara, Turkey.
Karacabey Mosque is a house of prayer with five oval domes supported by stone and brick walls arranged in a polygonal form. The decorated brick minaret rises from the structure and creates a vertical accent visible from outside.
The structure was founded in 1428 by Governor Celaleddin Karaca Bey bin Abdullah and underwent major reconstruction over time. Following an earthquake in 1892, it received extensive repairs and renovations.
The interior displays traditional Ottoman geometric designs and patterns across the walls and domes. These decorations remain part of the daily prayer experience for visitors walking through the space.
Visitors should dress appropriately and be respectful during prayer times, as these are active worship periods. The interior layout is rectangular, making it easy to move through and observe the prayer space.
The minaret features special glazed bricks with fine embroidery-like patterns that architect Sinaneddin Ahmed placed along the entire structure. This detailed craftsmanship sets the minaret apart from other buildings in the area.
