Gazi University Painting and Sculpture Museum, Art museum at Gazi University, Ankara Province, Turkey
Gazi University Painting and Sculpture Museum is an art museum at Gazi University in Ankara holding more than 3,600 works across various media. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, prints, caricatures, photographs, and ethnographic objects.
The building was completed in 1930 after architect Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu won a design competition in 1926 and created it in the First National Architecture style. It later became a central repository for preserving and studying Turkish art.
The collection shows how Turkish artists expressed themselves across different time periods and artistic movements. Visitors can observe the subjects and techniques that mattered to creators working in this tradition.
After extensive renovation in 2018, the exterior, exhibition halls, and storage areas were upgraded for better visitor comfort and navigation. The spaces now flow more logically and are easier to explore.
The museum houses the location where Turkey's first opera performance 'Özsoy' was staged. Within the building, a marble inscription displays Atatürk's Address to Youth for visitors to see.
