Ziraat Bank Museum

Ziraat Bank Museum, Banking history museum in Ulus district, Ankara, Turkey.

Description

The Ziraat Bank Museum occupies the Honor Hall on the ground floor of the bank's main building and displays items that show how Turkish banking developed over time. Visitors can see money, savings books, bank teller equipment, and other objects that tell this story of financial change.

History

The museum opened its doors in 1981 inside a building completed in 1929, designed by Italian architect Giulio Mongeri. The structure was built during an era when Turkey was creating its first modern national architecture.

Culture

The collection here shows real objects from early Turkish banking life, such as typewriters and handwritten record books used by bank employees. These items reveal how people worked with money and kept accounts in the past.

Practical

Entry to the museum is free and the space is open on weekdays and weekends. Allow time to walk through all the exhibits and the original vault room with its impressive metal doors.

Did you know?

The vault room still preserves the original French-made Fichet doors installed in the early 1900s to protect the bank's assets. These heavy metal mechanisms offer a glimpse into the security technology of that era.
