The Gökyay Chess Museum displays over 700 chess sets from 111 countries within a traditional Ankara-style building with approximately 1,000 square meters of exhibition space. The collection showcases a wide variety of styles and materials from around the world.
The collection was started in 1975 by Akın Gökyay and entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2012 with 412 sets. It has continued to grow and expand over time.
The chess sets display materials like wood, marble, and plastic while reflecting themes from different cultures around the world. You can see designs ranging from traditional craftsmanship to modern artistic interpretations.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 and closed on Mondays and national holidays. It is best to visit during daylight hours and plan enough time to explore the extensive collection.
