Lake Scott State Park, Kansas state park in Scott County, US
Lake Scott State Park is a natural area covering around 1,000 acres with a 40-acre spring-fed lake at its center. The grounds offer hiking trails, fishing, camping, and boating for different types of visitors.
The area was a significant place for Pueblo peoples over centuries and later for early European settlers. The pueblo village and settler homes preserved here document this long and interwoven past.
The Steele family home preserved within the grounds shows how early settlers lived and worked in this region. You can see how daily life looked more than a century ago.
The visitor center provides information, and the grounds have campsites and cabins for staying overnight. It works best to arrive by car, as paths between different park areas are spread out.
A lesser-known spot is El Cuartelejo Pueblo, an old pueblo structure documented as the northernmost of its kind in North America. This archaeological feature shows how far north the Pueblo peoples traveled.
