Lakeville State Hospital, former hospital
Lakeville State Hospital is a large brick complex in Massachusetts with several buildings spread across an expansive property. The main structure shows signs of deterioration with broken windows, while a former doctors' residence and remnants of ward buildings are scattered throughout the grounds.
The facility opened in 1910 to help tuberculosis patients recover, but shifted to treating other serious health conditions after the 1950s as those cases declined. It closed in the early 1990s after newer hospitals in the region took over patient care.
The site is clearly visible from Route 105 but sits on private property and is not open to public access. The condition of some buildings makes them unsafe, so the property should be viewed from a distance.
After closure, the property was the subject of several development plans, including a major food distribution center, all of which failed or went unapproved. These abandoned projects left traces on the grounds and tell a story of the town's shifting economic hopes.
