Conestee Nature Preserve

Conestee Nature Preserve is a nature reserve spanning about 400 acres (160 hectares) that combines forests, wetlands, and a lake with multiple viewing platforms positioned throughout. Wooden boardwalks connect the different landscapes and make walking through all sections accessible.

The land was originally used for farming, later converted for industrial purposes, and finally protected as a nature sanctuary. This transformation made it an example of land reclamation in the region.

The preserve serves as a learning space where school groups from Greenville County explore nature and conduct outdoor studies at no charge. This program shapes how local residents connect with the protected area.

The area is open daily from sunrise to sunset with multiple parking areas near the main entrance. Morning visits are ideal for seeing birds and avoiding crowds that tend to gather later in the day.

The site is recognized as an Important Bird Area of global significance and draws birdwatchers from across the region. This recognition highlights the value of the habitats for migratory and resident bird species.
