Wilkins House

Wilkins House is a two-story brick residence with tall windows, decorative brackets, and ornate cornices in the Italianate style. The structure displays architectural details typical of late 19th-century American homes.

William T. Wilkins, a merchant invested in manufacturing, had this residence built by architect Jacob W. Cagle in 1876. The property was relocated in recent decades, changing its location while maintaining its original structure.

The interior displays Victorian elements such as crystal chandeliers and a curved staircase that show what wealthy families valued in their homes after the Civil War.

An 1898 publication named it the finest residence in northern South Carolina. This contemporary praise shows how much it impressed observers at the height of the Gilded Age.
