Little Cedar Grove Baptist Church
Little Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Protestant church building in Brookville, Indiana.
The 1812 brick structure features original handhewn beams, pillars, floor materials, and an upper balcony section within its two-story design.
The congregation formed in 1797 by settlers from Virginia and Kentucky, with Elder William Tyner leading the first Baptist community in Franklin County.
The church construction accelerated after the New Madrid earthquake of 1811, as congregation members interpreted the event as a divine signal.
The historic building stands near U.S. Route 52 at Little Cedar Road, southeast of Brookville, with the Indiana State Library holding its documents.
The structure includes defensive rifle ports in its walls, making it both a religious center and a potential fortress during early frontier times.
