Madison Children's Museum

Madison Children's Museum is a four-story building filled with hands-on exhibits covering art, science, local history, and environmental topics. All the displays are designed for children up to about age 12 to touch, explore, and learn through direct interaction.

The museum was founded in 1980 and moved to its current home on Hamilton Street in 2010. The new location allowed it to grow its educational programs and interactive offerings significantly.

The museum reflects Wisconsin's farming roots by showing how local agricultural practices and food production shape the region. You can see exhibits that connect farming traditions to everyday life and community values.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and welcomes families with children of varying ages. It's helpful to check hours before visiting and allow plenty of time to explore the different areas comfortably.

The museum's rooftop features a garden with a chicken coop, native plants, and raised beds for growing food. This outdoor space lets children learn about urban farming and environmental care through hands-on experience.
