Churchill Building, Commercial high-rise building in Madison, Wisconsin
The Churchill Building at 16 North Carroll Street rises nine stories with a Beaux-Arts architectural design featuring stone facades and symmetrical elements.
Built in 1915 as Madison's first skyscraper, the structure remained the tallest building in Wisconsin outside Milwaukee until the State Capitol completion in 1917.
The building represents early 20th-century urban development in Madison, marking the city's transformation from a small capital to a modern metropolitan center.
The nine-floor structure contains two elevators and stands at the intersection of North Carroll Street, near multiple public transportation connections in downtown Madison.
Following its construction, the city enacted a 90-foot height restriction for buildings near the Capitol, making the Churchill Building the last unrestricted development of its era.
