Medical Arts Building, Art Deco skyscraper in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
The Medical Arts Building is a 16-story Art Deco tower on Central Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with carved limestone ornaments and bronze grillework framing its entrance. The facade is covered in decorative details typical of the style, making it one of the more ornate buildings in the city's downtown.
The building went up in 1929 and held the title of the tallest structure in Arkansas for about 30 years. Its upper floors were used as medical offices for decades before that activity came to an end in 1991.
The Medical Arts Building displays fluted columns and decorative flower panels across its facade that still define the look of Central Avenue today. Walking past it, you can see how much care went into the carved limestone and bronze details at the entrance.
The ground floor and entrance are open to visitors, but the upper floors are currently being renovated, so access is limited to the lobby area. Visiting during daylight hours gives you the best view of the carved details on the facade.
In the 1950s, the building's exterior was used as the Daily Planet headquarters in the original Superman television series. Many fans of the show still recognize the facade when they stand in front of it today.
