Mountainlair

Mountainlair is the student union building at West Virginia University, sprawling across three levels and housing meeting spaces, dining areas, and recreation facilities. The interior contains an information desk, post office, bank, and multiple food options to serve campus needs throughout the day.

The building opened in 1968 as a replacement for an earlier structure that had served students since 1948. This new construction was designed to provide more space and improved facilities for growing campus activities.

The building functions as the central gathering place where student organizations meet and hold events in dedicated spaces. You can see how the campus community uses these areas throughout the day for club activities and student-led programs.

The facility offers a parking structure with short-term spaces available for visitors. Inside, you can find an information desk to help orient yourself, plus convenient services and dining options spread throughout the building.

The 'Up All Night' program runs Thursday through Saturday and offers free food and entertainment to students. This approach has become a recognized model at other universities seeking to reduce campus drinking culture.
