National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Horse racing museum and hall of fame in Saratoga Springs, United States
The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is a museum for horse racing in Saratoga Springs in New York State that displays trophies, artworks and historical objects from several centuries. The collections extend across multiple rooms and document the development of thoroughbred racing in North America through photographs, personal items of racing personalities and original equipment.
This institution was founded in 1950 and moved to its current location on Union Avenue near the Saratoga racetrack in 1955. Since then it has honored individuals from the world of horse racing through induction into its Hall of Fame.
Visitors can watch a film about induction into the Hall of Fame that tells the stories of honored personalities from the racing world. The screening room brings the traditions of this sport closer and shows how horses, jockeys and trainers became legends.
This place opens year-round and offers self-guided tours through the exhibition rooms. Veterans, active military personnel and members of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders Association receive reduced admission prices.
Each spring during Kentucky Derby week the institution announces the names of new members inducted into the Hall of Fame. The selection comes from several categories and includes both animals and people who shaped the sport.
