Old Tennent Church

Old Tennent Church is a wooden building in Manalapan that reflects the colonial style of the 1700s, with its pitched roof and prominent bell tower. Inside, the original wooden pews and pulpit from its founding era remain in place and are still used for services.

This church was founded in the mid-1700s and became involved in the Revolutionary War when it was converted into a field hospital during the Battle of Monmouth in 1778. The building survived this wartime use and has continued operating as a place of worship ever since.

The cemetery here holds the graves of people who helped shape the young nation's founding documents. Walking among the headstones reveals connections to those who signed important early American texts.

The church is located on Tennent Road in Manalapan and is typically open for visitors outside of service times. It is respectful to dress appropriately and keep quiet when entering, as services may sometimes be in progress.

A stone monument on the grounds from 1920 bears the engraved names of local servicemen and women who died in World War I. This memorial stands as a reminder of a different era of conflict that touched the same community decades later.
