Pilot Mound State Forest encompasses 314 acres of natural habitats with woodlands situated atop a 70-foot glacial mound at 1,150 feet elevation.
B.P. Holst donated the land to Iowa in 1939, establishing a protected area that would later become an essential part of Iowa's forest conservation system.
