Promised Land State Park

Promised Land State Park is a protected nature area on the Pocono Plateau in Pike County featuring extensive forests, two lakes, and trails for exploration. The park includes campgrounds and rustic cabins alongside day-use facilities for visitors.

Pennsylvania purchased this land in 1902 and designated it as a state park in 1905 after decades of timber cutting had cleared much of the forest. The park's main buildings and infrastructure were built during the 1930s by work crews.

The park's name reflects the hopes of early settlers who sought refuge in this remote location. Walking through the grounds today, you can sense how this place still draws people seeking solitude in nature.

Wear sturdy shoes when exploring the trails, as the terrain includes slopes and uneven ground throughout the park. The area is open year-round, though spring through fall offers the most comfortable conditions for outdoor activities.

Several buildings from the 1930s, including the Bear Wallow Cabins and Whittaker Lodge, appear on the National Register of Historic Places. These carefully maintained structures reveal the craftsmanship of that era and remain visible as you explore the grounds.
