Richard Alsop IV House, Greek Revival mansion in Middletown, United States
The Richard Alsop IV House exhibits a symmetrical structure with a central cube featuring three bays and lower wings supported by double-height Doric colonnades.
Built between 1838 and 1840 by merchant Richard Alsop IV for his mother Maria Pomeroy Alsop Dana, the mansion remained in family possession until 1948.
The mansion functions as the Davison Arts Center of Wesleyan University, adding to the cultural offerings of High Street in Middletown.
Located at 301 High Street, the property spans two acres and features a stately facade facing east toward the Connecticut River.
The interior walls display preserved trompe l'oeil murals and oil-on-plaster paintings created by German or Italian immigrant artisans between 1839 and 1860.
