Sciencenter, Science museum in Ithaca, United States
Sciencenter is a science museum in downtown Ithaca, New York, where visitors can interact directly with exhibits covering physics, biology, engineering, and environmental topics. The building includes both indoor galleries and an outdoor area with additional hands-on stations.
The Sciencenter was founded in 1983 as a nonprofit organization to bring hands-on science to the Ithaca community. Over time it grew beyond its local roots and began producing traveling exhibitions that tour nationally.
The Sciencenter is a place where families and school groups come to experiment together, not just watch or listen. The exhibits are built so that children and adults can explore on their own, without needing any prior knowledge.
The museum is within walking distance of central Ithaca, making it easy to reach on foot from many parts of downtown. Allow at least a couple of hours if you are visiting with children, as there is a lot to explore.
The Sciencenter has developed and produced several of its own traveling exhibitions in-house, which is uncommon for a museum of its size. One of them, the Mobilab, travels as a rolling laboratory and brings experiments directly to schools and communities.
