Stewart Park, Public park at Cayuga Lake shore in Ithaca, United States.
Stewart Park is a recreational area on the southern shore of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, New York. The grounds include walking paths, playgrounds, picnic tables, tennis courts, athletic fields, and a spray pool for children.
The land was set aside as a military lot in 1790 and later opened to the public as Renwick Park in 1894. It was renamed Stewart Park in 1921 in honor of a local mayor.
The park is a gathering spot for families, students, and local residents who come to spend time near the water on weekends and warm afternoons. The open lawns near the lake shore are often filled with people eating, playing, or simply sitting and watching the water.
The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and is free to enter. Pavilions can be reserved in advance, which is worth doing during summer if you plan to gather a group.
The park has a bird sanctuary that draws birdwatchers throughout the year, even in winter when the rest of the grounds are nearly empty. It sits in a quieter section of the park and is easy to reach on foot from the main entrance.
