The 150-foot-tall Shafer Tower features a carillon with 48 custom-made bells and a chiming clock in the center of Ball State University campus.
Completed in 2001 for three million dollars, the tower required two reconstructions due to cement issues but maintained its status as Indiana's highest bell tower.
The carillon performs daily Westminster Quarters between 7 AM and 7 PM, marking time for students and faculty across the university grounds.
Visitors can access the tower through McKinley Avenue on University Green, with parking facilities available nearby for convenient exploration of the structure.
The tower contains a narrow staircase leading to a control room where musicians perform on a keyboard connected to the 48-bell carillon system.
