Alva Kitselman House
Alva Kitselman House, Colonial Revival mansion in Muncie, United States.
The Alva Kitselman House is a red brick structure in Muncie with a symmetrical facade and a central portico framed by Ionic columns. The main roof slopes with a hipped design that creates clean proportions throughout the building.
The house was built in 1915 when wealthy manufacturers were constructing grand residences in the region. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1994 to preserve its architectural value.
The house reflects the tastes of wealthy industrial leaders who lived in Indiana during the early 20th century. The Colonial Revival details and decorative steel fence show how local elites designed their homes to display their status.
The property sits on West University Avenue and includes the main residence plus a separate carriage house on the grounds. Visitors should note that the site is now part of a religious establishment, so public access may be limited or require prior arrangement.
The building became known as Hazelwood and now serves as a center for the Hazelwood Christian Church. This transformation shows how grand private homes can take on new purposes and become community gathering places.
