Stevens Center, Theater building in downtown Winston-Salem, US
Stevens Center is a neoclassical building on West Fourth Street in downtown Winston-Salem that houses a grand auditorium with more than 1,000 seats across multiple levels. An additional hall on the tenth floor is available for events and gatherings.
The theater was built in 1929 as the Carolina Theatre and was one of the region's largest venues for silent films and vaudeville acts. It developed into a key cultural center for the city.
The School of the Arts at the University of North Carolina uses this venue for music, theater, and dance shows. Visitors can watch student and professional productions performed here regularly.
The building is wheelchair accessible and provides hearing assistance systems for visitors with hearing difficulties. Plan to arrive early since parking downtown can be limited during busy times.
Elvis Presley performed here in 1954, several years before he became famous with his first major hit record. This was one of the early shows by the young performer before achieving wide recognition.
