Sunrise Resort State Park, State park in East Haddam, United States
Sunrise Resort State Park is a 143-acre park along the Salmon River in East Haddam, featuring trails and recreational zones for outdoor activities. The grounds spread across wooded terrain with river views and several areas for picnicking and leisure.
The grounds began as a private vacation resort founded by Ted Hilton in 1916 and later operated by Frank Davis. Connecticut acquired the property in 2009 and converted it into a public state park.
The park reflects Connecticut's dedication to preserving natural spaces, converting former resort properties into public recreational areas.
The park is accessed through a shared entrance with Machimoodus State Park and operates from 8:00 AM until sunset with no admission charge. Visitors will find parking and basic facilities available for a half-day visit.
The river valley hosts bald eagles during migration season, which visitors often spot near the water. The park offers roughly 4,700 feet of riverbank where nature watchers can observe these raptors while fishing.
