Telemark Lodge, Alpine resort in Cable, Wisconsin, United States.
Telemark Lodge was an alpine resort in northern Wisconsin offering condominiums with full kitchens, hot tub baths, private porches, and space for groups of four to sixteen guests. The property featured multiple buildings and facilities spread across the grounds to support both winter and summer activities.
Tony Wise founded the lodge in 1947 as one of the first alpine ski areas in the United States, with a major lodge building added in 1972. The property was part of the early growth of skiing as a winter recreation across North America.
The lodge served as the starting point for the American Birkebeiner cross-country skiing race, a major annual event that drew thousands of participants to the area. This race defined the place as a gathering point for the skiing community and shaped how people in the region understood the lodge's role.
The property offered year-round activities including mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, road biking, golfing, skiing, and snowmobiling. Visitors should plan according to the season, as outdoor conditions and available activities change significantly between summer and winter months.
The property went through four bankruptcies between 1984 and 2013, leading to repeated closures and changes in management. This financial turmoil ultimately resulted in the complete demolition of the main building in April 2021.
