Terhune Orchards, Family winery in Princeton, New Jersey.
Terhune Orchards is a winery and working farm in Princeton, New Jersey, where grapevines and fruit trees grow side by side on the same property. The farm produces wine from several grape varieties, including Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay, alongside seasonal apple picking for visitors.
The farm was founded in 1975 when Pam and Gary Mount bought a property in Princeton to run as a family operation. It grew further in 2003 when they acquired a second farm nearby, which allowed the mix of fruit growing and wine production seen today.
The tasting room sits inside an old barn that once held livestock and hay, now repurposed as the heart of the wine operation. Walking through it, you notice how farm life and wine culture share the same roof.
The property is easy to walk through on simple paths that connect the vineyards and the tasting barn. Autumn brings the most activity, so that is when a visit gives you the widest range of things to see and do on the farm.
New Jersey is rarely thought of as a wine-producing state, yet Terhune Orchards is part of a growing group of family-run wineries making wine for local markets. The same family grows both the fruit and the grapes on the property, which is uncommon even among small regional producers.
