The district features buildings designed by notable architects Peabody and Stearns, William Adams Delano, and Frederick Law Olmsted along the former King's Highway.
The historic district extends along Main Street and Lawrenceville-Princeton Road for over two miles, with structures situated within 250 feet of the road.
The Anderson-Brearley Tavern at 2481 Main Street, a Georgian structure from the mid-18th century, has operated continuously as a tavern since 1758.
