Grounds for Sculpture, Sculpture garden and nonprofit organization in Hamilton Township, United States.
Grounds for Sculpture is a 42-acre park displaying over 270 outdoor contemporary sculptures set among natural woodlands, ponds, and bamboo groves. Eight indoor galleries inside the grounds provide additional exhibition space for rotating shows and artistic presentations.
The site was originally the New Jersey State Fairgrounds before being transformed into a public sculpture park in 1992 through artist Seward Johnson's vision. This conversion created a new dedicated space for contemporary art in the region.
The park hosts rotating exhibitions throughout the year, bringing together established artists and new voices working in contemporary sculpture. These changing displays give visitors a reason to return and experience different artistic perspectives each season.
It helps to check the park layout ahead of time since the grounds are large and somewhat spread out - comfortable walking shoes are essential. Guided tours and educational programs are available, but you can also explore freely at your own pace and make your own discoveries.
The grounds are planted with over 2,000 trees and 100 plant species that surround the sculptures with seasonal backdrops and changing colors. This living backdrop gives the artworks entirely different effects depending on when you visit.
