Tuscarora State Park, State park in Schuylkill County, United States.
Tuscarora State Park covers roughly 1,600 acres of forested land in Schuylkill County, featuring a large lake at its heart. Locust Mountain drops sharply toward the water on the southern side, creating a dramatic natural edge to the landscape.
The land became a public park in the 1970s when the Marchalonis family sold their property, including the artificial lake, to the state of Pennsylvania. This transfer from private to public ownership opened the forest to recreational use for the broader community.
The park takes its name from the Tuscarora Indians who migrated to this region after leaving North Carolina. Walking through the area, you connect with the history of a people who shaped the land you explore.
Seven hiking trails wind through the park, many following old logging roads with varying difficulty levels. You can also swim, fish, or boat on the lake using an electric motor, giving you multiple ways to enjoy a day here.
The lake holds bass, muskellunge, and pickerel that thrive in the cool waters along Locust Mountain's steep drop. These fish populations make the lake a destination for anglers seeking specific species to catch.
