Van Meter State Park, State park in Saline County, United States
Van Meter State Park is a 1,105-acre property situated along the Missouri River with rolling hills, ravines, marshes, and mixed forest types. The landscape includes wetland areas and both lowland and upland woodlands across its terrain.
Annie Vanmeter donated land in 1932 to establish this park. Subsequent development by the Civilian Conservation Corps added shelter buildings and infrastructure during the mid-1930s.
The American Indian Cultural Center displays exhibits and murals that tell the story of the people who lived here long ago. Visitors can see artifacts from the ancient Utz Site settlement and learn about the cultures that shaped this region.
The park offers camping areas with level gravel sites, picnic tables, and fire rings along with water access. An 18-acre lake provides opportunities for fishing activities throughout the year.
The property contains several archaeological sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places that visitors can explore. A large earthwork formation called Old Fort represents an example of prehistoric construction visible within the park.
