W. H. Bickel Estate
W. H. Bickel Estate, Tudor Revival mansion in Parkersburg, United States.
The W.H. Bickel Estate is a Tudor Revival mansion in Parkersburg featuring a rectangular main section with an east wing clad in stone veneer from Philadelphia. Inside, the spaces showcase detailed woodwork, five gas fireplaces with marble hearths, and fifteen French doors on the first floor, along with maple arched doors on the upper level.
The mansion was built between 1928 and 1930 during the height of the Tudor Revival movement. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 in recognition of its architectural significance.
The ballroom on the third floor once hosted social gatherings for the wealthy family during the early 20th century. The space reflects how the upper class entertained and celebrated during that era.
The estate can be viewed from the grounds, allowing you to admire the exterior architecture and the lawn features including the sculptural pieces. Daytime visits work best to see the architectural details and stone ornaments clearly lit by natural light.
The grounds include a substantial stone fountain featuring an intricate spray system and hand-carved sandstone mill sculpture. These garden ornaments showcase attention to detail that extends beyond typical estate landscaping.
