Pennsylvania Railroad 6755
Pennsylvania Railroad 6755, Historic tender locomotive at Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, US
Pennsylvania Railroad 6755 is a steam locomotive built in 1930 with a 4-8-2 wheel arrangement and weighing about 768,000 pounds. The attached tender carried fuel and water supplies needed for extended journeys across the rail network.
This locomotive was built in 1930 at Altoona Works and belonged to the M1b class. It hauled freight across the Pennsylvania Railroad network until it was retired from service in 1957.
This locomotive shows how American railroads used advanced engineering to move freight across the country during the early 1900s. The design reflects the technical skill and industrial power that defined rail transportation in that era.
You can view this locomotive at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg during regular opening hours. The museum is easy to find and offers convenient parking for visitors.
This is the only surviving M1 class locomotive of its kind preserved in the United States. Its tender has the capacity to hold around 31 tons of coal and over 22,000 gallons of water, allowing for extended runs without refueling stops.
