Two Brothers Rocks-Dudley Road Historic District, Historic district along Concord River in Bedford and Billerica, United States.
Two Brothers Rocks-Dudley Road Historic District is an area of about 230 acres of rural and residential land along a river in the Bedford and Billerica region. It contains old roads, houses, barns, and walls from different periods of American history.
Two large rocks in the area were inscribed in 1638 and marked the land boundary between two early governors of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Since then the land has gradually developed while keeping its basic structures intact.
The site shows how early settlers shaped and used the land, from stone walls to old homesteads that still give visitors a sense of past rural life. The preserved structures and pathways follow the same patterns as they did hundreds of years ago.
The two rocks can be reached either by boat on the river or by hiking trails in a nearby conservation area. Visitors should check the weather and wear proper footwear since the trails and banks have varying ground conditions.
The area preserves about 40 percent of its land as open space, keeping the rural character from the 17th century visible today. These open areas between old homesteads show what the landscape looked like and how people lived on it.
