Great Brook Farm State Park, Natural recreation area in Carlisle, United States.
Great Brook Farm State Park is a nature reserve in Carlisle, Massachusetts, made up of forests, open meadows, wetlands, and several ponds. A network of trails crosses the entire property, connecting different landscapes and passing by Meadow Pond at its center.
The land was home to English settlers in the 17th century, and stone foundations from their houses can still be found along some trails. The state took over the property in 1967 and opened it as a public park under the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
A working dairy farm sits within the park, and visitors can watch cows grazing and farm life unfolding as they walk through. A small shop on site sells ice cream made from the farm's own milk, drawing local families on weekends.
The park is open every day and has a parking area near the main entrance off Lowell Road. Some trails can get muddy after rain, so sturdy footwear makes the walk more comfortable.
In winter, a section of the park becomes a cross-country ski center with groomed tracks and equipment available to rent on site. This makes it one of the few state parks in Massachusetts where you can ski without leaving the public park system.
