Saint Leonard Catholic Church

Saint Leonard Catholic Church is a brick structure featuring Romanesque Revival architecture with a dominant bell tower at its center. The tower holds three bells and a four-dial clock that are visible elements of the building's exterior design.

The building was constructed in 1913 and replaced an earlier wooden structure from 1881 that had been relocated to the city in 1898. Financial constraints caused delays in completing this newer building.

The parish has adapted its services to welcome the growing Hispanic community in the city. Visitors notice how the church serves multiple language groups in its weekly gatherings.

The church is located in downtown Madison and can accommodate around 700 visitors during services. It is helpful to check service times in advance, as available masses may vary seasonally.

Architect Jacob M. Nachtigall blended multiple architectural styles in his design for this structure. The combination of Neoclassical and Romanesque elements creates an unusual visual character that reflects design approaches of the early 1900s.
