The skyscraper was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and opened in 1983 on Michigan Avenue's northern section. Its construction marked a turning point in the city's modern building design with an innovative tube structural system.

The building shapes the street experience along Magnificent Mile with shops at ground level and luxury apartments at the top. This mix of uses shows how modern construction brings together shopping, working, and living in one location.

The building houses a swim club and fitness center for residents, along with retail shops in its lower section. Visitors can explore the public areas and shops during the day, while the residential floors remain private.
