The observation deck opened in 1969 as part of the John Hancock Center, then one of the world's tallest buildings. The structure shaped Chicago's modern development and set architectural standards for high-rises in America.
The '3 of 77' exhibit features work by local artists presenting Chicago's neighborhoods through interactive displays and multimedia installations. This gives visitors a direct sense of the city's diversity through creative interpretation.

The TILT experience uses a mechanical system that extends visitors outward in a glass enclosure at an angle over Michigan Avenue and above street level. This sensation of hovering creates an unusual viewing angle of the city below.
