Located at 1000 N Lake Shore Drive, Oak Street Beach extends along Lake Michigan with white sand and the Chicago skyline as a backdrop.
The area transformed from a public cemetery in the 1860s to become part of Lincoln Park, with a protective breakwater constructed in the 1870s.
The beach features a 260-foot mural by Jeff Zimmermann titled 'You Know What You Should Do' that promotes awareness about water quality and beach health.
Visitors can rent beach chairs for $10, umbrellas for $20, and access amenities including volleyball courts, restrooms, and food services at Oak Street Beach Café.
The beach provides designated areas for distance swimming parallel to the shore from Division Street to the Chess Pavilion, 20 yards west of the buoys.
