Dr. Joseph M. and Sarah Pound Farmstead, Pioneer farmstead museum in Dripping Springs, United States.
The Dr. Joseph M. and Sarah Pound Farmstead is a five-acre farmhouse museum featuring a two-room log cabin with breezeway, barn, smokehouse, windmill, and heritage gardens. The buildings and grounds illustrate how Texas farming families worked and lived during the 1850s.
Joseph Pound established the farm in 1854 after returning from military service in Mexico and completing his medical training in Kentucky. The property expanded to 750 acres and remained under family ownership until 1983.
The farmstead served as a gathering place where the Pound family offered medical care, education, and spiritual guidance to neighbors. Community members relied on this location for essential services and social connection, making it a vital hub for the developing settlement.
The site is located in Dripping Springs on Founders Park Road with a dedicated parking area. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes, as the various buildings are spread across the property with natural paths connecting them.
The property features a Heritage Oak tree estimated at 500 years old and rare antique roses that Sarah Pound brought from Mississippi in 1853. These living links to the family's past reveal how they worked to make their frontier home feel settled and welcoming.
