Newton White Mansion, Historic mansion and protected area in Mitchellville, Maryland, United States.
The Newton White Mansion stands as a Neo-Georgian residence constructed in 1939 with molded brick in Flemish bond masonry, featuring a distinctive curved hipped roof with flared eaves and clipped corner end chimneys.
Built in 1939 by architect William Lawrence Bottomley for Captain Newton H. White Jr., the first commanding officer of the USS Enterprise, the mansion served as the centerpiece of a 586-acre dairy farm estate.
The mansion exemplifies Colonial Revival architecture with whimsical maritime elements including porthole-like windows and sculptural brick figures of farm animals adorning the gateposts, reflecting both naval heritage and agricultural traditions.
Currently operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission as an event venue since 1971, the mansion hosts weddings and corporate gatherings while being surrounded by the Enterprise Golf Course.
The property features a five-part Maryland house design with curved walls connecting the main block to freestanding dependencies, incorporating maritime motifs that honor Captain White's distinguished naval career aboard the USS Enterprise.
