Stony Kill Falls, Plunge waterfall in Wawarsing, New York, United States.
Stony Kill Falls is a waterfall in Wawarsing, New York, located in the northwestern section of Minnewaska Preserve. Water drops approximately 87 feet straight down between towering rock walls that frame the plunge.
The area was acquired by New York State, the Open Space Institute, and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference from Napanoch Sand and Gravel Company in 2001. This acquisition protected the site and incorporated it into the public preserve system.
The waterfall serves as an alternative entrance to Minnewaska Preserve, attracting outdoor enthusiasts seeking a different path to explore natural formations.
Access is gained by walking east on a gravel road that passes through an open clearing toward the falls. Parking is limited at the trailhead, so arriving early on weekends is advisable to secure a spot.
Near the falls stands an old helipad and a fenced deep water valve connected to the Delaware Aqueduct. This infrastructure supplies water to New York City and reveals an unexpected link between nature preservation and urban infrastructure.
