Puritas Springs Park, Amusement park in Cuyahoga County, United States.
Puritas Springs Park was an amusement park sprawling across about 80 acres on the north side of Puritas Road with views overlooking the Rocky River Valley. The grounds contained multiple rides and entertainment facilities designed to attract visitors of all ages.
John E. Gooding established the park in 1898 at the site of a mineral water bottling operation and introduced Ohio's first horse-drawn and steam-powered carousels. The location quickly became a popular destination and maintained its appeal for several decades.
Three different dance halls operated at the site over the decades, with the final one functioning as an open-air venue where people gathered for celebrations and social events. These spaces were central to the local community's recreational life and drew visitors from throughout the region.
Visitors should know that the park closed in 1958 and the grounds were subsequently redeveloped. Today the site is no longer accessible as an amusement destination, as residential and commercial buildings now occupy the original location.
The famous Cyclone roller coaster reached speeds between 50 and 55 miles per hour when first installed in 1927. The ride was modified and slowed down in 1946 to improve passenger safety after engineering concerns arose.
