Mill Springs Mill, Historic watermill in Wayne County, Kentucky.
Mill Springs Mill is a three-story wooden building with a large water wheel located near the Cumberland River in Kentucky. The structure sits beside moving water that powered the machinery used to grind grain for local farmers.
The building was constructed in 1877 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed major restoration work in 1976 to preserve the structure.
The mill demonstrates traditional grain grinding methods that once fed generations of local farmers. Visitors can see how people prepared their grain and understand the role such places held in rural communities.
The building is open to visitors and seasonal demonstrations show how grain was ground using water power. A small shop at the site sells handcrafted goods and local products.
The water wheel has been replaced during the mill's history with a much larger version than the original. The first wooden wheel operated the machinery for nearly 30 years before being upgraded to a stronger design.
