William G. Stratton Building

The William G. Stratton Building contains eight floors and serves as a central hub for state government operations in downtown Springfield, Illinois.

The construction of this government building began in February 1954 and reached completion in 1956, during a period of expansion in state administrative facilities.

The building functions as a workplace for representatives of both chambers of the Illinois legislature, reflecting the organization of state governance.

Located within the Capitol Complex, the structure provides 446,429 square feet of office space and remains accessible through the Springfield Mass Transit District.

Despite multiple proposals to close or replace the building, including a 2004 House vote, the structure continues to operate as a key administrative center.
