Newton Falls Covered Bridge

The Newton Falls Covered Bridge spans 123 feet across the east branch of the Mahoning River with a width of 24 feet and features a Town lattice truss design.

Built in 1831, this wooden structure replaced a log bridge and gained recognition in the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 for its engineering and architectural merit.

The bridge represents one of five covered bridges constructed in Newton Township during the nineteenth century, reflecting early American transportation infrastructure development.

The structure maintains its original function for automobile traffic while incorporating a separate covered walkway added in 1921 to protect students walking to school.

This bridge stands as the second-oldest existing covered bridge in Ohio and remains the only one in the state featuring a covered pedestrian walkway.
