Tri-Taylor Historic District, Historic district in Near West Side, Chicago, United States.
Tri-Taylor Historic District is a residential neighborhood on Chicago's Near West Side with over 400 buildings from the late 1800s. The architecture shows different styles such as Prairie School, Italianate, and Classical Revival design typical of that period.
After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, this area became home to middle-class families from German and Irish backgrounds. By around 1900, Italian families moved in and became the dominant community here.
The buildings here display decorative details that show what immigrant families valued in their homes during the 1800s. Walking through the streets, you can see the craftsmanship and design choices that mattered to German, Irish, and Italian residents who built their lives here.
The area is located near the Illinois Medical District and University of Illinois at Chicago, making it easy to reach. The best time to explore is during daylight hours, when you can see the architecture clearly and enjoy the quiet streets.
The district gained National Register status in 1983, which protected it from being demolished or drastically changed by modern development. This recognition has helped preserve what you see today as one of Chicago's oldest remaining neighborhoods.
