Dragon Slayer, Steel roller coaster at Adventureland, Altoona, US
Dragon Slayer is a steel roller coaster at Adventureland Park in Altoona, Iowa, where cars are mounted horizontally on both sides of a red track. The seats rotate freely throughout the ride, which means no two runs feel exactly the same.
Dragon Slayer opened in 2021 on the same spot where the original Dragon coaster had stood since 1990 before closing in 2019. The new ride replaced an attraction that had been part of the park for nearly three decades.
The medieval theme of Dragon Slayer is visible in the castle-style entrance and in the names given to its two train sections, Knight and Squire. Each section offers a slightly different ride intensity, giving visitors of different comfort levels a choice before they board.
The freely rotating seats make for a physically intense experience, so visitors should secure any loose items before boarding. Arriving earlier in the day is a good idea, as this type of ride tends to draw long lines once the park fills up.
Dragon Slayer uses a 4D Free Spin model from S&S Sansei Technologies, where the seats are not locked or controlled in any way and move entirely according to the forces of the track. This means two people sitting side by side on the same run can have completely different experiences.
