The Monster is a steel roller coaster at Adventureland in Altoona that features a tall chain lift and steep plunge sections. The track includes multiple loops and inversions spread across the layout, creating a dynamic path through the park's landscape.
The Monster was announced on Adventureland's Facebook page on July 8, 2015, and opened on June 4, 2016. It replaced the River Rapids Log Ride, a log flume removed because of maintenance issues. It was the first Infinity Coaster from Gerstlauer in the United States.
The Monster is the second roller coaster worldwide to use a Finnish loop, after Junker at PowerLand. Its three trains each have two cars, seating four riders per row. The ride's lighting system was created by KCL Engineering.
Visitors should check height requirements before boarding since these restrictions are necessary for safety. Arriving early in the day often means shorter wait times.
The nighttime display uses 46 ground lights and 137 track-mounted fixtures supplied by KCL Engineering. Designer Mike Lambert received two Illuminating Engineering Society Illumination Awards for Innovation in Design for the system.
